Noteworthy News 7/2/17

BAPTISM/CONFIRMATION Congratulations to C.J. Horan who was welcomed into the Lord’s family through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and Confirmation at our worship service this morning.

FOOD PANTRY The first Sunday of every month is Food Pantry Sunday. Donations received on this day go to benefit the Southeast Linn Comm. Center Food Pantry. Be sure to pick up an envelope in the Narthex, and place your donation in the offering plate during worship.

WEDNESDAY EVENING PRAYER SERVICE We will be having an evening prayer service with communion this Wednesday, July 5 at 6:30pm. All are invited. 

LFS OFFERING Next Sunday, July 9, we will be taking a special offering for Lutheran Family Service of Iowa. For more information about the organization and their services, go to lfsiowa.org.

CAMPERSHIPS AVAILABLE The Priscilla Guild is offering campership funds to youth for summer camp. If you are interested, please contact Susan Adrian (jeff_adrian@hotmail.com) with requests by Sunday, July 9. 

VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY The next quarterly voters’ assembly and potluck will be Sunday, July 23. All members are encouraged to attend. All reports for the meeting packet are due to Tracy by Wednesday, July 19. 

PRISCILLA GUILD GARAGE SALE The Priscilla Guild will be having their annual garage sale and food booth on Saturday, August 5. Please place donated items in the designated rooms in the Sunday School wing. Signup sheets for food donations and workers are on the table in the Narthex. Parents/Adults: Please make sure children are accompanied by an adult if they are in the Sunday School wing prior to the garage sale in August. The Priscilla Guild would like to make sure all donated items remain in their designated rooms, and also some items may pose a safety risk to children. Thank you! 

TRAVELING LUTHER As you travel around the local area, across the country, or abroad, bring Traveling Martin Luther with you.  Take photos of him on the journey anywhere the Good News of God’s free gift of grace can be shared.  We’ll post the pictures at church and on the St. Paul Facebook page.  You can pick up your Traveling Luther from the folder hanging on the divider wall to Sonya’s office.

YOUTH SUMMER FUNDRAISER The youth are asking congregation members to save their cans and bottles this summer.  There are two options for collection:

You can bring them to church (There is drop off area near the big freezer in the room off of the kitchen.)

If you have some that need to be picked up, you can let a youth know or text Sonya at 319-360-8521, and we will arrange a time to pick them up.  Thank you for your support!! 

DIRECTORY An updated church directory has been put in your church mailbox. Please take it and other contents in your mailbox home with you today. Thanks!

LWR KITS The Priscilla Guild is collecting items for baby care kits for Lutheran World Relief. The list of needed items is for the kits is on the flyer near the collection basket in the Narthex. There is now a list of all items needed for each LWR kit (1/2 sheet of paper) on the table near the basket. Please take one for reference while shopping for items. Summer garage sale season is a great time to find items for baby care kits!

MISSIONS St. Paul supports several missions including local, national and international organizations. Take a look at the mission postings on the cubicle in the Narthex to keep up to date on the missions we support!

ALTAR FLOWERS There is a flower chart posted on the bulletin board. If you would like to provide altar flowers, please sign your name and write the occasion for which the flowers are being provided. 

BIRTHDAY JAR There is a birthday jar near the card display in the Narthex. Members of the congregation are encouraged to drop in a penny for each year of their age during their birthday week. The funds raised are used for Sunday School needs.

LEGO® PIECES NEEDED Word of God Lutheran Church for the Deaf (LCMS), Cedar Rapids, is collecting LEGOs to piece together educational kits to send to elementary Lutheran schools in Africa.  Please donate before July 30, 2017.  We are accepting all LEGO sets and individual pieces – bricks, technic, etc. – we can use whatever you are willing to give!  Questions? NEWS FROM THE FAMILY LIFE COORDINATOR 

Paper Towel Rolls Needed
Please save your paper towel rolls for VBS.  We need a large quantity of them for one of our crafts.  There is a box in the Sunday School office where you can place them.  We could also use a few TP rolls as well. 

Plan to Join Us in the Heritage Days Parade
All members of the congregation are invited to participate in St. Paul’s entry in the Heritage Days parade in Mt. Vernon this Sat., July 8.  We will have a float promoting VBS.  There are spots for riders, as well as a need for people to pass out candy and VBS invitations.  You can meet at the church at 9:30 to ride the float to the Cornell football field parking lot.  Or, join us there between 10 and 10:45. The parade starts at 11. We will have VBS t-shirts available for both kids and adults to wear during the parade. 

VBS Decorating on Thursday and Next Sunday
We will start decorating for VBS on Thursday (July 6) at 1 p.m., working on the Narthex, library, and fellowship hall.  We will finish the decorating after worship on Sunday, July 9.  Please join us if you are able to help!

Register Now for VBS
You may register your children (ages 3 through 5th grade in fall 2017) at our online VBS registration link on the church website homepage, http://www.splcmv.org.  There are also some paper registration forms on the table in the Narthex.  Please place completed forms in the Baumler mailbox.

Reminder – VBS starts Early on July 9
Please plan to bring your children to VBS at 5:30 p.m. on July 9 to allow time for registration and check-in.  We will have pizza for kids to eat between 5:30 and 6 p.m.

Invite Your Friends and Family to VBS
There are invitation postcards on the table in the Narthex that you can use to invite your friends and family members (ages 3 – 5th grade) to VBS.  We have plenty, so let me know if you need more!
