Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher Still Needed
We are still in need of a co-teacher for the preschool/kindergarten Sunday School class.  If you are able to help, please let me know.

Young Families Bible Study – October 7
We will be having a Bible study targeting young families (those with kids school-age and younger) on the first Sunday of every month starting on October 7.  It will run at the same time as Sunday School (8:15-9:15) and will meet in the back of the sanctuary. This replaces the regular Sunday morning adult Sunday School class that day. Parents are welcome to bring infants, and there is a nursery for children under 3.  This year we will focus on developing Godly character in our children.

Christmas Program Set for December 9
The Sunday School Christmas program is set for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9.  It will be followed by a soup supper.  All children and youth preschool through high school are welcome to participate.  If you are interested in co-directing the program, please let me know.  The children will start practicing their songs for the program on October 28, and parts will be handed out before Thanksgiving.

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS Cain and Abel: Genesis 4:1-16; Story Bible p. 33
Do your kids get jealous? Today in Sunday School, our children studied the story of “Cain and Abel,” which tells about the first case of murder caused by jealousy. Consider discussing, “How does jealousy affect relationships in a family? Why is it important to forgive one another in our family?”

BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES There are two kinds of people in the world: those who wake up and say, “Good morning, Lord!” and those who wake up and say, “Good Lord, it’s morning!” Which are you? It is usually true that mood follows message. How we feel emotionally results from how we think about what is happening. The next time you are having a bad day, stop and check your thoughts. Listen to what you are telling yourself. Challenge and then replace negative, untrue self-statements with the truth. (Hint: look for truths from the author of life Himself in your Bible). LFS counselors are available to help you learn to change negative thought patterns, replacing them with truth. Lutheran Family Service (Quad Cities Regional Office 563-359-0696 or LFSiowa.org).
