Noteworthy News 4/28/19

VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY The next quarterly Voter’s Assembly/potluck is TODAY after the service.  Among the new business items are a set of initiatives being developed by the Elders’ Action Committee.  Included in this set of projects are items such as a Pastor’s Minute radio broadcast, print advertising, and a community service volunteer team (action committee project info packet on the table in the Narthex).  Financial resources would come from Board – Outreach funds.  Please join us!

MEN’S BREAKFAST will be next Saturday, May 4 at 8am at the church. All are invited. Contact Jeff Adrian for more information.

RECOGNITION OF GRADUATES We will be recognizing high school and college graduates of the congregation on Sunday, May 12. If you have a graduate, please forward the following information to Tracy by May 6: name, parents, birthdate, school graduating from, future plans.

TEA PARTY All are invited to an old-fashioned tea party on Saturday, June 1 at 2pm here at St. Paul. There will be food, fellowship and entertainment. Admission is a freewill donation. Please RSVP on the signup sheet in the Narthex by Sunday, May 19. Volunteers are needed for supplies, musical performances, and help with food preparation. Those signups are in the Narthex as well. There will be a planning meeting for the event (all women of the congregation) in the Church Library on Sunday, May 5 following the worship service. CAMPERSHIPS The St. Paul Priscilla Guild is offering campership funds to youth of the congregation for summer church camp. Camperships are not based on need. They are a “thank you” for all the support the congregation gives to the Priscilla Guild. If you are interested, please contact Susan Adrian (jeff_adrian@hotmail.com) with requests by May 15. 

LWR During May the Priscilla Guild is collecting items for baby care kits for Lutheran World Relief. Lists of items currently needed for the kits are on the LWR table in the Narthex (please take one). Please follow the specific guidelines. Also on the table are directions for fleece blankets if you would like to contribute in that way as well.

Youth Night
Sunday, May 5, 5-7 pm (We will have middle school and high school combined.  We will have a devotion first then finish tying the two remaining blankets.  Followed by dinner and games.)

NEWS FROM THE FAMILY LIFE COORDINATOR 

Young Families Bible Study on May 5
We will continue our Bible study for young families next Sunday, May 5.  We meet at the same time as Sunday School (8:15-9:15). Parents are welcome to bring infants and there is a nursery for children under 3. This year we are focusing on developing Godly character in our children.

Join our Miraculous Mission VBS
Lift off for an intergalactic adventure, and learn about God’s plan of salvation from creation to the cross! Keep Jesus and His Gospel at the center of your children’s VBS experience with Miraculous Mission at St. Paul on the evenings of July 21-25. Volunteers are needed to help plan, teach, and guide children to each station.  There is a volunteer signup on the table in the Narthex.  Please contact me or Brenda Bany if you have any questions about job responsibilities of the various volunteer positions. Registration for VBS is now open. You can register online at the church website:  http://www.splcmv.org, or you may use the paper copies that are on the table in the Narthex.  Please place completed registrations in the Baumler mailbox.

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS The Baptism of Jesus: Luke 3:15-22; Story Bible pp. 297-299.  “The Baptism of Jesus” is the Bible story taught in Sunday School today. God sent the Holy Spirit at Jesus’ Baptism, announcing that Jesus was God’s Son. At our Baptism, God makes us His children through the work of the Holy Spirit. Let your children tell you the dramatic events of this story. 

PRISCILLA GUILD ANNUAL GARAGE SALE will be SATURDAY, JUNE 15 this year (a change from previous years). You may start putting donation items in the Sunday School wing following the last day of Sunday School on Sunday, May 19. 

ALTAR FLOWERS There is a flower chart for the remainder of 2019 posted on the bulletin board in the church Narthex. If you would like to provide altar flowers, please sign your name, and write the occasion for which the flowers are being provided. (or no special occasion needed to provide flowers)

SPRING CLEANUP AT CAMP The annual spring cleanup day at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 beginning at 8am. The main focus will be doing general outdoor cleanup around the camp and cleaning out two cabins for an upcoming event. Workers may bring any outdoor tools, and work gloves are recommended. IDE DISTRICT OFFICE POSITION OPENING The Iowa District East district office in Marion is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Communications/Events/Technology Coordinator. MATTHEW 25 SPRING CELEBRATION at the Urban Farm (437 G Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids) will be Tuesday, April 30 from 4:30-6pm. This year’s event will be showcasing the beautiful changes that have happened on the Urban Farm in the last year. Appetizers and beverages will be served.
