Noteworthy News 5/5/19

FOOD PANTRY The first Sunday of every month is Food Pantry Sunday. Donations received on this day go to benefit the Southeast Linn Comm. Center Food Pantry. Be sure to pick up an envelope in the Narthex, and place your donation in the offering plate during worship. 

PASTOR OUT OF OFFICE Pastor will be out of the office until Monday, May 13. In case of emergency during this time, please contact Pastor Buchmueller at 417-380-4299 (this is his cell so you can reach him even when he’s working at Mercy, and he will help you as he is able). Or you may call Tracy during office hours at 895-8772 or cell 319-826-4435. 

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY The next monthly women’s Bible study will be Saturday, May 11 at 10:30am at Cabin Coffee in Lisbon. All are invited. This will be the last study until fall (break for summer). Contact Gloria Krob for more information. 

RECOGNITION OF GRADUATES We will be recognizing high school and college graduates of the congregation on Sunday, May 12. If you have a graduate, please forward the following information to Tracy by May 6: name, parents, birthdate, school graduating from, future plans.

TEA PARTY All are invited to an old-fashioned tea party on Saturday, June 1 at 2pm here at St. Paul. There will be food, fellowship and entertainment. Admission is a freewill donation. Please RSVP on the signup sheet in the Narthex by Sunday, May 19. Volunteers are needed for supplies, musical performances, and help with food preparation. Those signups are in the Narthex as well. There will be a planning meeting for the event (all women of the congregation) in the Church Library on Sunday, May 5 following the worship service. CAMPERSHIPS The St. Paul Priscilla Guild is offering campership funds to youth of the congregation for summer church camp. Camperships are not based on need. They are a “thank you” for all the support the congregation gives to the Priscilla Guild. If you are interested, please contact Susan Adrian ( with requests by May 15.

PRISCILLA GUILD ANNUAL GARAGE SALE will be SATURDAY, JUNE 15 this year (a change from previous years). You may start putting donation items in the Sunday School wing following the last day of Sunday School on Sunday, May 19.


Celebration Breakfast on May 19
We hope that you can join us in celebrating the end of the year with a breakfast on Sunday, May 19 at 8:15 a.m.  The breakfast will take the place of Sunday School that day.  All members are invited to attend.  Breakfast casseroles will be provided.  Families are asked to bring a side dish or baked good to share.  If you would like to bring a breakfast casserole, please let me know

Sunday School Curriculum for Fall 2019
We will be having a meeting on Wednesday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. for current Sunday School teachers and everyone interested in learning more about a potential new curriculum series.  All are welcome to hear about the new curriculum from Concordia Publishing House and to discuss whether or not we would like to adopt it at St. Paul next fall.  Go to for a sneak peek.  Attending the meeting does not commit you to teach in the fall.

Join our Miraculous Mission VBS
Lift off for an intergalactic adventure, and learn about God’s plan of salvation from creation to the cross! Keep Jesus and His Gospel at the center of your children’s VBS experience with Miraculous Mission at St. Paul on the evenings of July 21-25. There is a volunteer signup on the table in the Narthex.  Please contact me or Brenda Bany if you have any questions about job responsibilities of the various volunteer positions. Registration for VBS is now open. You can register online at the church website:, or you may use the paper copies that are on the table in the Narthex.  Please place completed registrations in the Baumler mailbox.

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS The Temptation of Jesus: Luke 4:1-13; Story Bible pp. 300-302. Today in Sunday School, the children studied “The Temptation of Jesus.” Like us, Jesus was tempted by Satan to sin. Yet, for us, He overcame all temptation because we cannot. In your family discussions, consider asking, “How are we tempted to rely on ourselves and trust in our powers?” 

LWR During May the Priscilla Guild is collecting items for baby care kits for Lutheran World Relief. Lists of items currently needed for the kits are on the LWR table in the Narthex (please take one). Please follow the specific guidelines. Also on the table are directions for fleece blankets if you would like to contribute in that way as well. 

ALTAR FLOWERS There is a flower chart for the remainder of 2019 posted on the bulletin board in the church Narthex. If you would like to provide altar flowers, please sign your name, and write the occasion for which the flowers are being provided. (or no special occasion needed to provide flowers)

GREETING CARDS Mother’s Day and graduation cards are now available in the card display in the Narthex. Cards cost $1 each, and proceeds go to the youth groups.

SPRING CLEANUP AT CAMP The annual spring cleanup day at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 beginning at 8am. The main focus will be doing general outdoor cleanup around the camp and cleaning out two cabins for an upcoming event. Workers may bring any outdoor tools, and work gloves are recommended. LWML TASTING LUNCHEON The annual event will be Friday, May 17 from 11am-12:30pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Advance tickets are $12 or may be purchased at the door for $14. For tickets and more information, contact Alice Hoffmeier (319) 365-8586 or Heidi Baumert (319) 389-8809.
